Thanks Tinu. I didn't write this until after the election. I believe it took the election to make all the threads of this hang together for me. If I'd been given reign at work, this would have been a series of articles which included original reporting. Instead, I ended up writing down everything as a synthesis at once, relying on past reporting and cultural analysis. I have long since given up on knowing how and if my work changes history.
